You Name It

"People who support people with disabilities are people, too. "

This Encore original focuses on Brodie, a support provider for people with disabilities. His job is rewarding, frustrating, often chaotic, sometimes dangerous—and rarely appreciated. Brodie’s sister, Chloe, is one of the few people with a disability who doesn’t like him, and his mother won’t leave either of them alone. His band is the only thing that keeps him going ... until a chance meeting with an attractive nurse named Mary sends Brodie into a tailspin, just as he comes under the shadow of a serious accusation. All this ... and he’s about to turn 30! This piece tackles another underrepresented group of individuals, people that support people with disabilities. You Name It! Is a light-hearted take on the frustrations of support staff and although the scenarios may be geared towards people with disabilities, the themes are universal. Who hasn’t had a day where everything goes wrong? Who hasn’t wanted to chuck their responsibility out the window? You Name It! as described by Jacqueline West of the Isthmus in her 2006 review, “It’s a rock musical in the truest sense—we’re talking garage-band rock, rough around the edges, crude and fresh and filled with unpretentious passion.”
